Minimally Invasive Uni (MIU) Knee Replacement (Partial)
John T is a 55 year old businessman with a 5 year history of increasing right knee pain after an operation to take out a torn cartilage when he was 20 after a football injury. This operation fixed his problem then but the knee was never quite right since.
Recently his pain had increased and stopped him playing golf.
X-rays showed severe arthritis isolated to the inner side of the knee where his pain was concentrated and where the cartilage had been removed 35 years ago. He had an arthroscopic ‘clean up’ 3 years ago but this helped for only 6 months.
After a lot of discussion about the various options and having a second opinion he had a Minimally Invasive Unicompartmental Partial Knee Replacements through the same small incision used to remove his cartilage all those years ago.
He was in hospital only 3 days after his operation (he could have gone earlier if we had pushed him) and was able to return to his office job 3 weeks after his operation. Due to our billing agreement with his private health insurance fund he had no gaps to pay at all for his surgery or hospital costs.
By 3 months after surgery he was pain free (apart from some minor niggles) and was back at golf.
